Wild Flowers and Life
26-April-2007 from Don Patterson
The
bluebonnets are starting to fade. I always dread these days.
Bluebonnets are
so glorious when in full bloom on every corner, all over our region.
But even though I don't want them to fade, they will. They always
do.
It reminds me
of Isaiah 40:6-7
All men are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field, the grass withers
and the flowers fall, ... but the word of our God stands forever.
The fading
of flowers reminds me of how transient my life really is. No matter
what glory I have, it will fade. In fact, it is fading already; I
only have to look in a mirror to see that. But the word of God
- that word
promises renewal and restoration in Christ, that word that forgives me
when I fail, that word that guides me when I feel confused, that word
will never
fade. It is glorious and in full bloom every day for the
rest of time.
Flowers and
people will fade, but not the Word of God. It is the one beauty in
life that will last forever. Enjoy it. Let it flow in
your life like an eternal spring.
A footnote:
As the bluebonnets fade, have you noticed the second wave of
flowers coming in? Wow! Indian blankets, Indian paint brushes and
several others. I counted five different kinds of flowers at one street
corner. It's also that way with the body of believers on earth, as one
fades
to heaven, so another wave comes and blooms to glorify their creator.
That gives me
more reason
to find ways to fill my kids and all kids with the Word of God. We are
raising our kids with God's Word, so that they can be close to God and
glorify him long after we are gone.
Flowers, God's
Word and people - the lessons are all around us.
